Reversible Unisex Hoodie Pattern - Sew Fab Sale

by , in
This post is part of our Sew Fab Sale series. If you haven't already you should put in for the awesome giveaway.

One pattern that I am über excited about but deadlines being what they are I haven't had a chance to sew is the Kitchy Coo Reversible Zippy Hoodie. It goes from 18M to 8Y, which if you bought it on her site it would cost $10.50 for the 18M-4T and another $10.50 for 5T-8T.
Kitchy Coo Reversible Zippy Hoodie

There are several things I think that are great about this pattern one of them being that you can use woven or knit. Which I love because I detest when I have the perfect fabric and the perfect pattern but then they don't work together.  She also gives you the option of a tighter or more relaxed fit, which is great for a more custom fit. The way she set up her PDF pattern pieces is great because she setup her patterns close together so there is little wasted paper.

Fancy Pants for Baby - Sew Fab Sale

by , in
This post is part of our Sew Fab Sale series. If you haven't already you should put in for the awesome giveaway.

The Fancy Pants pattern is one that I have been eying for a while (regular price on this pattern is $9). I was thinking how the extra fabric in the bottom area would be perfect for Ryder's acrobatics. He is constantly pulling out the crotch of his knit pants (both commercially produced and Momma Made).  I was excited to try the pattern but he wears a 5T and originally that size wasn't included (update: Laura has adjusted pattern to make it up to size 10 in the pattern pack before the sale). Which I will be sewing up several of these for his birthday because they went so fast.
Slim Jim had the day off work on Thursday, and we were able to get together with some of our dearest personal friends (I was her roommate in college, we doubled with them on our first date, Slim Jim worked with him and they both were the essence of a true friends as our life crashed down with panic disorder) to say the least they mean a whole bunch to us.
Before we visited, I quizzed her about her clothing needs for her little guy (she has two little girls about Ryder and Boston's age). She sheepishly admitted that she only had 3 things. I was able to make these little fancy pants to make it a solid 4 Items.

I want to show you some awesome Fancy pants from the world wide web, to show you the versatility of this pattern. After seeing some of the girl versions I am also excited to attempt some for Boston.

Don't worry we aren't selling out, we are just selling patterns

by , in
Last Month, Jenny announced that she was looking for affiliates for the Sew Fab sale. I was interested in participating because we had bought the bundle the last time she had done it and felt like it was a really good deal, that said I didn't want to be an affiliate if I didn't feel like the collection of patterns unless I felt like it was best for you. When Jenny sent me the list I felt like it was a slam dunk. A good chunk of these are patterns that I have on a wish list for a payday that has a little more wiggle room and then I would buy them. I will be honest some of them I had never heard of but I was excited to try them.

Life being what it is we have had a chance to look at all the patterns and read the instructions though we didn't get a chance to sew all 26. But through out the week we will be sharing the stuff we have made within a few days of buying the pattern pack and show you how versatile this pattern pack is for the fall and Christmas.

I want you to know we will only ever do an affiliate link if we feel it is a worthwhile. We understand that budgets are tight and would never endorse something that we didn't passionately believe in. Oh and if you haven't already, go over to this post to enter the sweet giveaway for fabric.

Don't Miss this Awesome Deal & Great Giveaways

by , in

Welcome to the Fall and Winter 2013

Sew Fab e-pattern Sale Event!

Last February was the first ever Sew Fab e-pattern Sale and it was so successful and was so well received that Jenny Yarbrough of The Southern Institute, the creator and administrator of the sale, decided to have more!  This sale is bigger and better than the first, with plenty of patterns to get you through the fall and winter (if you live on this side of the hemisphere), and a few warm weather patterns thrown in for those of you who live on the other side of the world.  You'll also find more gender neutral patterns for those of you who are sewing for boys.  And what about you?  Of course there are a few women's patterns thrown in for some selfish sewing too! Over the past several weeks a lot of behind the scenes planning has taken place to bring you this newest bundle of ePatterns from many of the top established and up and coming online sewing pattern designers.  The result is a bundle of 26 PDF sewing patterns that you're going to love! For one week only, twenty-six pattern designers have come together to bring you 26 of their best PDF patterns, valued together at well over $2oo.oofor the incredible price of $29.95!!!  That’s over 80% off of the combined retail value!  Plus you can enter to win a dream of a giveaway with several prize packages from some of your favorite online fabric shops!
For less than $30.00 you will have a library of resources that you can use over and over again.
The designers that have joined this sale are experts in their craft.  Each designer has contributed one of their favorite patterns to create a bundle that is sure to please!  Whether you are sewing for your own family or making gifts for others, these are patterns that you will love to use.
If you’ve never sewn with a PDF pattern before, let me tell you how great it is!  After downloading your pattern instructions and your pattern, you will print out the pattern itself, creating pattern tiles, if you will.  Simply tape the tiles together to create the full pattern!  At that point you can cut out the size that you need and pin the paper pattern directly to your fabric, or you can trace the pattern size that you need onto sewing paper or tracing paper and cut it out, saving the paper pattern for later when you need to sew another size.  Pdf patterns are so convenient because you can print them out as many times as you need!

Now for the good stuff... the PATTERNS!

26 amazing ePatterns from 26 well-known and up and coming designers are instantly accessible to you by PDF download upon purchase of the Sew Fab e-Pattern Bundle.  Here are the patterns that you will receive (click on the links below the images for more  information about each pattern.):

It's my birthday and I will cry if I want to.

by , in
Today has been a crazy day.  It all started at 7 this morning when Rogue came in to tell me she was poopy.  Then at 7:10 she was hungry.  At 7:11 she spilled.  At 7:15 she was in the tub.  Fast forward a few hours.   Superman was looking for his shoes to go help Captain America at a service project.  We looked for 10 minutes, only to find them under the bed in plain site.  But while we looked for the shoes, we found out that Rogue colored all over the cream color
ed couch with a permanent sharpie marker.
At noon I went to make dinner for the 10 kids that I have been caring for, for the last 2 weeks.  I made macaroni and cheese.  But I burned it, so I made some more.  Then I made brownies for a church dinner tonight. You know that pan of brownies?  Well the kids ate it, with their little sneaky fingers.  So, I made another pan of brownies and I put them out of reach.
Then I cleaned the permanent marker off the couch, and the floor, and I threw the tights with permanent marker on them away.
Next I did laundry, four loads.  I tried to feed the kids lunch, but half of the kids had already eaten, and the other half don't like Mac' n' cheese.
Captain America and Superman have been gone for several hours at this point.  At 3:30 I decide to get ready for the dinner at the church.  I shower, put on makeup and fix my hair.  I contemplate wearing a crocheted dress that I made, but decided against it at the last minute.  I went with heals, tights, a suit coat and a pencil skirt.
At 4:30 I left for the dinner, that started at 4:30.  I took the brownies.  We had soup and salad and desert.  We listened to several world wide leaders of our church.  We went home.
I got home to 4 kids down stairs saying, "sorry mommy, we can't make you a cake, but happy birthday."  and one of the upstairs kids saying,"the girls have been in the tub for hours (probably 3) waiting for you to wash their hair."  And superman saying, "Mommy can you read this letter from my school."  and Captain America wanting to know where the laundry goes.  So, instead, I instructed Captain America on dinner, its 7 pm at this point.  I changed the laundry.  Changed out of my ridiculous high heals and pencil skirt.  I washed 3 heads of hair and I left.

My sweet friend invited me out to frozen yogurt.  Her treat.  We ate at a little place called Jams.  It was so refreshing to talk with her.  We are going through similar situations right now, with our families.  We are struggling with this thing called life.  And, we were encouraging each other to remember our Father in Heaven, and that he has a plan for us.
It really  was the perfect end to a day that was a little more crazy than usual.  So, now I am 30 and I didn't cry, though I may have wanted to a few times.  But, on the way home, I thanked the Lord for a new friend.

With love,
-Jo

Joscelyn Skirt Pattern Test

by , in
I'm happy to share a pattern test with you today. The Joscelyn Skirt (designed by Rosalie and Me) and is a 3 tiered skirt in knee length & maxi with optional pockets. The sizing ranges from 6 months to 10 years.
After last week's insanity, I was grateful to finish it off with this skirt. The directions were so clear and I had it all put together in just over an hour. Last summer I made Ty a 3 tiered peasant top dress, but it was stinky to do the math (and I love math). This was fast, simple, easy, and turned out beautiful.
Since Ty already has a lot of pretty dresses and it doesn't go with this season's chosen color scheme, I've decided to set it aside (and all other skirt pattern tests for the next year) to donate to the Skirting the Issue drive next summer.
If you use coupon code JOSCE20 on the Joscelyn Skirt pattern within the next week you can get it for 20% off, so it's only $5! But, if you forget to buy it in time or need to give your husband time to think about it, the regular price is $6.25 (which is dollars cheaper than a lot of patterns you can buy online).
Haha, so a funny story. I was visiting Scary when I made this skirt and needed to take pictures, but didn't have a corresponding shirt. So Ty borrowed Ryder's black tie shirt from Valentine's Day. She was walking around in public with a shirt on backwards and she knew it. She wanted to turn it around the right way, but we told her it was a secret. Lol. The things we put our kids through.
With Love,
Al

Purple Promenade Plaid Skirt and Shoelaces with a Suprise Flip.

by , in
When Boston was a little itty bitty baby our local quilt store had some of their fat quarter bundles on sale, in the sale items I found a Riley Blake Promenade in Purple bundle. I used the first one making the Love You Little Bird Skirt. I was going to sit out Plaid week on Project Run and Play but then I looked at my UFOs (un-finished objects) and realized that I had this little skirt 80% done. This is a little bit of a mix between, the $1 fat quarter skirt, spin skirt and her dress that I brought her home from the hospital in when she was a newborn.
I put my ruffling foot and rolled hem on the serger to do the ruffle. I love this skirt because it is girly but still age appropriate and I see it fitting her for a really long time.
The top is my initial experimental flip for the Beachy Boatneck. I am up against some pretty tough and talented competition so I thought I would begin my practice rounds. It wasn't perfect (little wider in the sleeve than I wanted) but it seems to move well and there is quite a bit of growing length, which I find as a real positive. The fabric came from a shirt that no longer looked awesome on me and I love how it makes her eyes pop and corresponds to the little blue flowers on the skirt.
Her necklace was inspired by the Styled by Ellie Necklace on Alida Makes, as soon as I saw it I knew Boston needed something similar because she loves accessories and ball is one of her favorite words. I made it using beads I had on hand from a girls night craft project from several years ago. And the string is embroidery floss I had on hand.
One of my most favorite parts of this outfit ended up being the shoelaces. Since the plaid was printed bias, when I cut the plaid on the bias (four square wide) it made it so I have squares instead of diamond. I folded it in half and then in half again. I had the idea came from Make it and Love it's (DIY Fabric Shoelace tutorial). The way that the fabric is printed every lace alternates between light and dark. Boston was a big fan of me changing out her laces since I made them longer than the original laces and they seem to have more stretch to them.
Over all I think think that this look is perfect for any season and I look forward to her wearing it dozens and dozens of times before she outgrows it.
Let me tell you she didn't want to take it off for anything, I think to date it is her favorite outfit I have made.
I thought while we were out we could get at least one picture of Ryder in his Mellow Yellow Shirt from my Waves of Summer Collection. He has pretty much outgrown it the hem barely meets the top of his pants.

Were off to go play hide and go seek in the trees, till next time.
One last smile for the road
